Kikkan Randall from USA grabbed the victory in the cross-country sprint on Sunday in Davos, Switzerland. The current sprint World Cup leader was the quickest in the qualifying session and dominated all the heats on her way to the final. In the final Randall was controlling the race. In the second lap she took over the initiative and put on a huge gap on the top of the hill. Randall came unchallenged to the finishing straight and celebrated second sprint victory in a row.
In the men’s sprint, World Cup Sprint Cup defending champion Emil Joensson (SWE) made his first race back and immediately gained a podium appearance: “I am glad to be back in the World Cup circus. I was really unsure about my shape and I am happy that I am still among the fastest guys. It is a tough course here in Davos in the high altitude and that is never easy to ski here.“
On Saturday: Ivan Babikov (CAN) and Matti Heikkinen’s (FIN) 7th and 8th place finishes in the 30km individual start race showed that they are coming into form before the Tour-De-Ski. Their performances were complemented by Rikki Sarasoja-Lilja (FIN) 10th place and Holly Brooks (USA) 13th place finishes. These 4 athletes were all racing on the Equipe 10 Skate Warm skis as the race took place on under a sunny sky with temps above freezing.
